Following on from the call to play Rugby League in 2020, Rugby League Gold Coast are now calling on their volunteers to show their support to help get clubs back on the field.
Rugby League Gold Coast announced a return to play from Saturday 25th July 2020. The decision was not made lightly considering the concerns around club volunteer support amidst the pandemic crisis.
RLGC Chairman Peter Daley mentioned "now we have a date to start playing again, we need our volunteers back on deck to support the clubs’ return to training and matches.”
“We know that volunteers are the heart beat of grassroots sports, and during this time, we need them more than ever. From the club executives, to the coaches, to the people in the canteen, all are vital to ensure we are able kick off next month.”
Local clubs raised concerns with the league about the additional pressure and tasks volunteers will need to take on under the current government return to play protocols.
Daley reiterated, “We understand that every season, clubs can find it difficult to recruit and retain volunteers. It is even more important now, for those who are in a position to stick their hand up to help, to get in contact with their club and register online.”
The NRL provided an update to their volunteer courses at the beginning of the month which allows club volunteers to extend their current accreditation to the end of the year. Online courses are now available online for coaches, sports trainers and referees.
