2019 is lining up to be an exciting year for the Ormeau Shearers.
The Shearers will celebrate the clubs 20-year anniversary in 2019 and have started their senior recruitment by signing on local A Grade marquee player Jesse Malcolm.
“Our biggest challenge will be trying to mould this team into a cohesive unit, obviously Jesse is one of the players coming through to us and we are hoping that we will have a couple more marquee players that will change our fortune,” Ormeau Shearers A Grade Coach Julius Kuresa said.
Being a part of the Runaway Bay Seagulls A Grade premiership winning side this year, Kuresa hopes Jesse’s experience, work ethic and leadership can help drive the Shearers forward for the 2019 season.
“I am really excited about the move to Ormeau and what the coaching staff have in place for pre-season training is a really good build for 2019 and the future,” Jesse Malcolm said.
A leader by example, Malcolm will bring his professionalism, experience and on field drive to help build the team towards a win in 2019.
Building a sense of culture amongst the Shearers, Kuresa is building the senior program and club culture by organising and promoting group training sessions inclusive of the Shearers Women’s team and junior players.
“Julius has a great vision and the senior program and culture that he is creating is fantastic, it is setting up a nice platform for our young Shearers to come through to kick onto bigger and better things at the club,” Ormeau Shearers President John Coulter said.
A great start for the Ormeau Shearers, with high hopes for the club to improve not only their on-field but off-field performance.
