A Grade Semi Final Week 2

August 31, 2017

The second round of semi-finals for the Rugby League Gold Coast A Grade competition will continue this weekend! The Tweed Heads Seagulls will not be progressing to this week’s finals after being knocked out by local rivals the Bilambil Jets 28-24 in last weekend’s elimination match.

Runaway Bay Seagulls v Bilambil Jets

The elimination final will see the Runaway Bay Seagulls host the Bilambil Jets for a Saturday afternoon kick off. After defeating the Tweed Heads Seagulls 28-24 in a physical match last weekend, the Jets are leading into this clash with a confidence boost defeating one of the top teams in the competition. Understanding the physicality of the Runaway Bay Seagulls, the Jets have been working to match their opposition and intensity. The Jets have had some consistency with their playing roster for the finals series and are eager for the upcoming challenge. Falling short against the Tugun Seahawks 34-12 in last week’s first round of finals, the Runaway Bay Seagulls have been working to rebuild and fine tune aspects of their game plan. Working on combinations and attacking sets the Seagulls are hoping to be more clinical in this weekend’s match.

Burleigh Bears v Tugun Seahawks

The second semi-final and qualifying match for the grand final will be between the Burleigh Bears and Tugun Seahawks. A great rivalry between the clubs, the Bears have had a well-rested week off after finishing minor premiers in the season. Although the Bears will see some shuffle in the playing roster with both front rows Daymeric Pelo and Anthony Gray out, the Bears have done their homework for the week. “We were a bit busted and bruised after Runaway Bay but have some players returning after season long injuries this week,” Bears coach Stuart Wilkins said. The side know what to expect from the Seahawks and are looking forward to the clash. The Seahawks will also see one of their player out for the season in Timi Matenga, however know there is experience within the club to step up to the role. “We will have the same strategy and game plan and know Burleigh are a quality team,” Seahawks coach Martin Griese said. Players to look out for are Tu Whakatihi and half back Drumayne Dayberg-Muir.
